For the first time in a great while I was at a 5-handed table meaning that we had to play 5 games altogether, with one player sitting out each game. For the first time ever I drew the lucky number 5 and was able to play the first 4 games and sit out (or go home rather) during the 5th game.

The past few times I’ve really been playing awful. That wasn’t the case this time, but for some reason I couldn’t get any kind of rhythm for a positive score. I won a little, lost a little, and ended up with negative 19. It wouldn’t be so back except for my horrible score last time (also thanks to the penalty of being late) and the fact that there will be a D3 league next season…

The good news is that I have been working on my game for the past few weeks and I feel a lot more confident. Some of my elders have been helping me and I think I can turn it around in the last session and choose better spots to push with. Since it looks like Garthe will be in D2 next session the only thing I don’t want to do is move down to D3. In 2009 I want to do everything I can to validate my status in JPML and that means playing a lot more mahjong. I’m already off to a good start on that part and I plan to keep it going. I’m still in a spot where a small positive score will keep me up and I’ll do everything I can to protect that.
