Furiten Question

Post by Gamegrunt » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:53 pm

As I understand it, furiten denies a player the ability to ron if any of his/her discards would complete his/her hand. Players who are furiten may only go out via tsumo.

I guess my question is, if I\'ve discarded a tile earlier in the round that is represented in my waiting hand I am not to claim a discard even if that discard is unrelated to the tile that made me furiten is the first place?

The question has no doubt been answered before, so I beg an indulgence, although it needn\'t be plenary.

Yes.

When you are furiten, you can not claim any tile to win.
It does not matter if the wanted tile is different than the ones you discarded.

In addition, any discarded tile that complete your hand makes you futien, regardless if this tile didn\'t gives you any yaku.

For example, if you have :
2-dot 3-dot 1-bam 1-bam 1-bam 7-bam 8-bam 9-bam 7-dot 8-dot 9-dot :east :east
and have discarded a 4-dot, you are furiten and can not ron any 4-dot nor 1-dot.
Cats don't do タンヤオ (tan-yao) but タニャーオ (ta-nya-o).
