JoyJan Beta Testing Begins

Post by Shirluban » Wed May 04, 2011 9:45 pm

JoyJan is a new mahjong site with Japanese rules and it's in ... English!

It is currently open for beta testing.
See the full ReachMahjong.com article ->there<-.

This online game is played with a client who runs on coffee (I mean Java).
It's light (few resource-consuming) and smooth.

It works great on my laptop, which is very new and very fast, even though it runs Linux.

On my old desktop (a 2.8GHz P4), not so much. Oh well.

But my main complaint is that both times I went to play, no one else was there. The last update on the news page is coming up on two years old.

The UI wasn't confusing. The AI opponents seem OK to this advanced beginner.

Anyone else given it a try?

I tried it, and I find the double click/right click Pass to be very useful. I liked that. The tiles and the client are really pretty.

I only had two problems. For one, it's empty most of the time (if not all of it), another one is, there is a small lag after -every- discard; it's like the tile is discarded, and then it waits for all people to pass... of course players who cannot call the tile just auto-pass without having to do anything, but it still consumes a lot of time to go through this confirmation process during every discard, and it can really be a drag when you're pushing a hand and expecting to be ron'd any second.

If there were enough people to justify grinding, I wouldn't mind being a regular.

Yeah, the lack of players is a big problem, but it's not surprising for a game still in beta-testing.

I've cloned this announce on the FFMJ's forum, hopefully that will help.

Hey, I just tried to register on joyjan (with two different mail accounts - one polish, other gmail) and I have waited for 12h now, and still no activation mail. I have check spam box and nothing there. I would really like to test it :( Any Ideas why its not working?

When I registered for Joyjan, Gmail filtered the email as spam and I had to fish it out of my spam box. Try that.

Also, there is a new thread for Joyjan in the Meetups forum: http://www.reachmahjong.com/en/forum/vi ... 23&t=52906
