This has come up on another recent thread, but I thought it deserved its own. The European Mahjong Association rules specify that a \"simple\" must be closed, whereas other rules sets allow it to be open. What rule determing tenyao do members of this community usually play with? Does anyone allow open tenyao but give +1 yaku if it is closed?
Inquiring minds wish to know...

I play open tanyao allowed (which is I think is most common in Japan, and is also common in computer games and stuff that uses Japanese mahjong rules). But I don\'t give an additional +1 han if closed (I don\'t know if anyone does this for this hand).

Kuitan is accepted in the various mj circles I play in in Hiroshima (except for my regular 3pmj sessions).
