Hey all.

Quick question - what´s Okkake Riichi? I came across the term while translating the stats in Mahjong Fight Club.

It took me some time to figure out the kanji (I really need a high-def TV!) and now I´m still stuck... I know what it says but not what it means!

I only get two hits in English on Google searching with both \"riichi\" and \"reach\". One is Poochy posting his MFC DS stats on this site and the other is David H´s blog (it´s a small world!) but neither gives an explicit definition.

An online dictionary defines Okkake as either a chase scene or a groupie, both suggest chasing/following... Is it when you call riichi after another player has already reached? :unsure:

Hello, I\'m new to the forum and only recently have been getting into real mahjong (it\'s all been digital for me up until now).

Anyway, you are corrent. Okkake riichi translates approx to \"chasing riichi\". It is when you declare riichi after someone else has declared riichi.

Conversely, \"sensei riichi\" (preemptive riichi) is when you\'re the first to declare riichi.

So I guessed correctly. I´ve already encountered Sensei Riichi in Mahjong Taikai IV where I got several trophies for it! :silly: I thought it was just for calling reach early in a hand, so good to have that clarified. Thanks!
