It's probably something in the table rules or maybe someone's special ability. I've only seen it in a couple of games ever, but you can have an optional rule where the match ends early if one player achieves a very high score, like 50k, 60k or 70k. This would usually have a name like トップ打ち切り or maybe 天辺 or てっぺん.
I see, makes sense. I'm going to guess it's a feature in this game since so far my impression is that this game highly tailored for quick online matches, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Barticle is on point, and the 3 players mode is East-South game.

Curiously enough when I tested out the "3 players mode", the game still lets me select my character and 3 CPUs, thus making the player count still 4 players. I wonder what that's all about?

That's curious indeed...

Anyone able to translate any of these symbols?
I assume they are Japanese but I could be wrong.

Yes, it's Japanese - the middle button has Japanese kana.

有 existence, possession (used to spell Ari)
無 nothing, negation (used to spell Nashi)
申 Monkey zodiac sign (used in words for "to be called", "to say", apology, application)
営 occupation, camp, conduct business
月 month, moon, Monday

得 profit, benefit, rebirth, gain
秘 secret, conceal

祝 celebrate, congratulate (used to spell Shugi = bonus chips)
合 fit, suit, merge, counting word for matches (used to spell Aikotoba = password)
満 full, satisfy (used to spell Mangan limit)
割 profit, assignment, ratio (used to spell Wareme rule)
禁 prohibition, ban

These could be abbreviations/contractions, for example "month" might be something like "monthly challenges" maybe.

I made a few guesses but that's as far as I can get.

Never underestimate the "poke and hope" method - press and see what happens! That's served me well for many years. :D

Wow, that's great!
I tried your guide first but couldn't come up with anything definite. Thanks.

I just saw this. Did not receive a notification in my e-mail.

But yeah, what Barticle said.

One of the ladies in my group bought this shirt without knowing what it says.
A little help, please?

Hey Steve. Glad to see a familiar name - or anyone - posting here.

The text is cursive and Chinese... but I think it's 打麻將.
打 can mean a ton of different things including "to play [a sport or game]".
麻將 is one of the Mandarin Chinese spellings for "mahjong".

Keep calm and play mahjong. Simple as that.

(Personally I would be more wary of wearing mystery foreign text! :P)

This is my first quick attempt from Friday night at translating the PSN trophy titles from Two Jong Cell on PS4 (2022).
Am happy with some; others not so much.

1 Let's Play Mahjong [Bronze]
2 Counted on Thirteen Fingers [Silver]
3 Youth and Starting Tiles Won't Wait [Bronze]
4 'A Sight for Sore Eyes' Mahjong [Bronze]
5 School Consolidation [Silver]
6 Certification of the School Club Head [Bronze]
7 Initiation of the Chairperson [Bronze]
8 Warm-Up is Finished [Silver]
9 Have a Good Burden [Gold]
10 I'm Good [Bronze]
11 I put my Heart and Soul into One Tile [Bronze]
12 Trembling with Excitement! [Bronze]
13 It's a Big Deal! [Bronze]

https://www.playstationtrophies.org/gam ... /trophies/

Now that I have an Android tablet I can use Google Translate with the camera function and that's been very handy.
It's no good with mahjong terms but that's the one part of Japanese I'm actually fluent in reading. :)

I haven't once had to use my Nintendo DS dictionary or paper kanji dictionary, although I'm still using Tangorin.com for wider detail.

Two Jancell trophy guide:

麻雀を、打とう
Let's play, mahjong.

Play a single mode match

指切り13本
Yubikiri juusanbon.
This one is related to pinky promise in japanese. It's a small joke on yubikiri genman. In full goes:
指きりげんまん嘘ついたら針千本飲ます
"Pinky promise and if I lie will eat a thousand needles"
Pretty metal/creepy.

Pinky promise related so I would call it, Tenbō promise as it's related to 13 long items.

Win with a Yakuman.

青春と配牌は待ったなし
Youth and starting tiles don't wait.

Clear Story Mode of any character.

眼福じゃん
Isn't it a sight for sore eyes?

Clear one Story Mode with high rank/上級

学園統一
School Unification, note that unification is tōitsu, similar to chiitoitsu. Probably it was intended, but maybe not.

Clear all Story Modes with high rank/上級

部長の墨付き
Certified by Buchō/Head of the Club

Clear the tutorial (game basics)

委員長の手ほどき
President's initiation (to mahjong)

Clear the tutorial (bonding)

アップは終い
Being ahead ends it

Clear 10 challenges

いい負荷待ってんね~
You have nice load there

Clear all challenges

おじょうずやなぁ
Aren't we skilled?

Get 1st in a free online match

一牌入魂っ!
I've put my soul into this tile!

Play 10 free online matches

武者震ってこーぜ!
Let's tremble with excitement!

Win a ranked match in online mode

大義である!
It was arduous!

Play 10 ranked matches in online mode

Some of the trophies can be read having sexual innuendo, so I made sure in english it was there.

This is great, thanks. Will definitely incorporate this in my guide - with credits to you of course.

For the Yakuman one, Tangorin.com says 指折り expands to 指折り数える which means "counting on your fingers".
Then you have 13 and the sticks countword which can also be used for fingers, so I think you're counting the 13 Han on your 13 fingers! :D

Ohh, of course!
It makes sense, totally.
Didn't think of that one.
And there is Kazoe Yakuman/Counted Yakuman with 13+ Han. Of course you can count Han with your fingers.

Tried to play online, but seems there are no matches, then again, is late in Japan and at the start of the week. Better to try on weekend.

Anyway, if you need me for anything else, here I am. Thankfully we both have this game. Makes easier to check on anything, I can just load it and check.

I am grateful for your input.

I am also grateful for the Yakuman limit! I've already seen Karen drop a 26-Han win. :o

26-Han
Imagine it without limit...

Just multiply the minipoints by about a billion for a non-dealer win! Yay, Aotenjou. :D

Going back to Steve's post from a couple of years ago, I happened to spot those exact same icons today in Microsoft Teams' emoji menu!

The mouseover text even gives a standard definition for each:

有 not free
無 free
申 application
営 open for business
月 monthly amount

得 bargain
秘 secret

祝 congratulations
合 agreement
満 no vacancy
割 discount
禁 prohibited

There were just five others, which all happen to be different shapes/colours to the above.

Four blue squares: サ (sa) service charge, ココ (koko) here, 指 reserved, 空 vacancy
One orange circle: 可 accept (or acceptable)
