Beginner question: Where's the yaku in this hand?

Post by Deshi » Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:59 pm

It\'s the hand of the 2nd episode of Akagi (11:48 into the episode). Here\'s the hand:

3 man pair, 3-5 pin, 6-8 pin, 2 sou set + 3-5 sou pon (ron with 5 pin)

Now from my bloody beginner understanding this is not a closed hand any more. So pinfu is out. Where\'s the yaku here?

Inside hand. No terminals or honors were present. In many rule sets, Inside hands are allowed to be open.

I see. Thanks a lot. I see it now :)

I hope this kind of questions aren\'t too annoying.

We were all learners once. :)

This yaku is also known as Tanyao or All Simples.

The optional rule that allows it in an exposed hand is usually called Kuitan.
