Confusing name question!

Hi! I\'m a beginner player!
Seeing the anime Akagi, I\'ve seen that hand:

1-dot 2-dot 3-dot 1-crak 2-crak 3-crak 1-bam 2-bam 3-bam 9-bam 9-bam red-dra red-dra red-dra

The player refers to this hand to \"3 Color Chun Chan\" (Chun Chan San Shoku?), I know that this hand is named \"San Shoku Doujun\" (Mixed tripple Chii), but, why appers that \"Chun Chan\"? It\'s a variation by the tripple chun? What are the different forms, and how I can know the names?
I don\'t find any hand named like that on internet (I don\'t know all the different hands yet).

Thanks, and please, try to solve my question!

(Sorry my strange english)

I\'m pretty sure the Chun refers to the Chun. The Chan is probably from \'Chanta\' which is a hand, if I remember the Japanese names correctly, composed only of sets which contain honors and terminals (with at least one run).

Japanese players like to cobmine yaku names, like mentanpin (menzen tsumo- tanyao- pinfu). So its also like this: chunchan sanshoku: chun from hakuhai (red dragon which name is chun); chan is from chanta (full name honchanta yaouchu; its when you have hand which sets are mad with terminals and honors- yaochupai); and of course sanshoku i short from san shoku doujun as you wrote (sanshoku doukou is so rare thats why there are no problems with recognising which is which one)

Is there any kind of a system that you use when you combine these expressions? I mean it\'s fairly common to hear about tanpin and such, but i never heard of pintan etc etc. So is there any kind of a logic or it follows some kind of a traditional way ?
