Hi,
I've read a lot of rules but one thing I just can't find is where do I draw the tile from the dead wall after calling kan? At the end? Do I choose? Next to the dora indicator?
On a similar note, when I replenish the dead wall with the last tile from the wall (tiles in play, I mean) do I take the top tile or the bottom tile?
Cheers

You draw from the end that is farther away from the live wall, ie, the one closest to the dora indicator.
When you replace a tile from the live wall (Players are used to it and they don't physically move tiles around, but it's a good thing as you are learning) you have to add the bottom tile (the last tile from the live wall is the bottom tile, since you draw them top then bottom) to the closest end of the dead wall (the one where you don't draw replacement tiles)

The wall's end should look like this, from the side:
D = dora indicator
1/2/3/4 = tile you draw after the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th kan
A/B/C/D = tile from the live wall, added to the dead wall after the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th kan
Code: Select all
13DXXXX BDXXXXXXXXX...
24XXXXX ACXXXXXXXXX...

Cats don't do タンヤオ (tan-yao) but タニャーオ (ta-nya-o).

You can read all about this online in "Barticles Guide to Japanese Mahjong" in section 10 on Dora.I've read a lot of rules but one thing I just can't find
And don't forget that each time you draw a supplemental tile after a kan is called, you reveal an additional dora indicator by flipping over the tiles marked X (DXXXX), starting with the one to the immediate right of the D. (the D in the dead wall)
Also remember that when you win with riichi, you get to flip over the tiles under every exposed dora indicator, including the D.
Computer games do this automatically but "live" games don't. I often forgot to do this when I started playing live.

Thank you everyone for your replies!
That cleared everything up.
Also or2az, thank you for telling me about that guide!
Yeah, I too forget to flip up the tiles underneath after Riichi, I think I have the hang of it now though.
