Sega MJ5 arcade system

I hadn't realised that Sega's MJ4 had been superseded by MJ5 a few months back.

The hand animations are superb as always and now the display includes the full wall giving a very realistic table view. *drool*

That moupai is so obnoxious. It's like saying "hey guys, I'm waiting on this suit".

I think I saw a special Saki version too, but i'm not 100% positive it was MJ5.

I know there was a special version of MJ4 a couple of years ago. http://www.saki-anime.com/blog/information/post_51/

I think it was quite a minor update, adding the girls as opponents to the single-player mode. I get the impression they just added voices and small non-animated avatars for each character.

Think they might be doing the same with MJ5 now.

It was indeed MJ5 (it turns out I took a pic of the promotional display):

And apparently, there's a contest (Saki Cup?).

Good pic, thanks... but where is Hisa? And Etopen!? :?

I've found several references to Saki Cup contests previously - I think they ran them with MJ4 too.

Ryƫ ga Gotoku 5 (the latest edition in the video-game series known as Yakuza in the west) is released in Japan this week.

In the demo you can play Virtua Fighter 2 and Taiko Drum Master at the Club Sega arcade but there are also several posters for MJ5.

I guess it's too much to hope that the two Sega teams have collaborated and enhanced Yakuza's mahjong minigame...

However, aside from it being a nice authentic detail, it's good to see MJ5 getting promotion on the PS3. Gives me hope for a Sega MJ title on the Playstation 4. :D

Cool video!

One thing I've noticed about some of the more 'realistic looking' video mahjong games is that they leave the discarded tiles slightly un-aligned to simulate the way they might look when humans are playing. However, for some reason I hate that - I like seeing the discards perfectly aligned. When I play in real life, I to take care to align my discards perfectly.

Any ETA for a european, or american version of Yakuza5? And any idea if they'll cut anything like they did on the third one?

B-b-but the wonky tiles and little hand nudges are the best bit! :o

No news on an English version of RGG5 or, for that matter, the RGG1&2 HD reissue that came out last month.

Sega is having a tough time financially. They closed most of their European offices over the summer. :?

I think they learnt their lesson after the fanbase uproar on Yakuza 3.
