Yeeeessss! That's great to hear! I have always wondered what exactly gamedesign.jp is... is it just one person's work? Is it a group?

So today I was checking the mahjong games in Android, and found a game called Jankisou 雀姫荘/Janki-sou something like Mahjong Princess Parlor. A 4 players riichi mahjong (1 player vs. AI game). Looks good, with very good visuals and relaxing music. It has a good set of options to modify, different modes to play, and difficulty levels.
The description states there is a 2 vs 2 mode.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... l=ja&gl=US

I do not know if it was listed here. It has japanese language, traditional and modern chinese, and english (it was bad but now it's fixed, and almost everything is clear enough)

Downloaded the trial version and it's full of cute loli characters, all of them. You have to pay 6 euro for the game if you want the full experience and check all the options and modes it has to offer, and looks like a pretty good riichi mahjong game (if you like lolis, you might be interested in this).

I do not care about this type of fictional characters, don't like them or dislike them either.

Seems like a solid riichi mahjong game to be honest.

Edit: In the end I was so curious about the game I decided to get it. The devs are improving the game day by day. I found a bug, and contacted them (in japanese), and they were fast to reply me, both in japanese and english. It might end being a great mahjong game, who knows?

Still not interested in loli characters.

The long-running Simple Series finally comes to Nintendo Switch next February.

The first release has the snappy title SIMPLEシリーズ for Nintendo Switch Vol.1 THE テーブルゲーム Deluxe Pack ~麻雀・囲碁・将棋・詰将棋・オセロ・カード・花札・二角取り~

Basically it's another Table Games compendium of tabletop games including mahjong.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B09NDSZ62V

That last in the list (二角取り - Nikakudori) is another game using mahjong tiles. Looks like mahjong solitaire except the tiles are initially arranged in a flat 8x17 rectangle. You can remove matching pairs if they are adjacent or connected through empty space on a route composed of horizontal and vertical lines with no more than two corners! (see pic) The game is also known as 四川省 - Shisen-Sho.

There's a new mahjong game like Mahjong Soul, 麻雀一番街/Riichi City, didn't test it much. Seems limited but aiming to be another Mahjong Soul, to have the same quality. Like the other one, is a game with gacha system and all...

(I've moved the PS2 and PSP lists here to free up space on the original posts)

Sony Playstation 2

The PS2 is region-locked so you can't play games from Japan on a standard European or American console (which is a shame as there were loads of mahjong titles for the PS2).

*Yakuza 2 [9/08]
- English language version of Ryū ga Gotoku 2
- gangster adventure/action/fighting game set in modern Shinjuku and Osaka
- minigames include shōgi, casino and mahjong game with basic options
http://www.sega.co.uk/games/yakuza-2/ (site closed Sept 2013)
http://uk.playstation.com/ps2/games/det ... %E2%84%A2/ (English)
http://yakuza.sega.com/project/yakuza-2/ (English)

This is the one that got me into mahjong! :D

Sony Playstation Portable (PSP)

Most PSP games should be region-free but movies on UMD (the PSP's unique disc format) will be region-locked.

The console does not support multiple user profiles but it's simple to delete one user and add another. Registering an account in Japan or Hong Kong gives access to the PSN stores for those territories.

The smaller "PSP go" model is designed to use download content only. It has no UMD drive so it cannot play game/movie discs.

Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

Post by Barticle » Wed Sep 14, 2022 6:18 pm

Lots of news from RGG Summit 2022 for the Yakuza series, although they seem to have fully transitioned to the Like a Dragon name now for foreign markets.

The teaser trailer for Like a Dragon 8 (2024) shows recent protagonist Ichiban paired with original protag Kiryu (with a weird greying host-style haircut :?).

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (2023) is set in 2018 and bridges RGG6 and RGG8 with Kiryu and brawler combat.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! (Feb 2023) is a "Kiwami" remake of the second samurai spin-off title in the series, previously Japan-only.

Also the Judgment Collection has been announced for PC.

Saw that, and Like a Dragon 8 looks cool. I have Ishin imported, got it a long time ago. But then the combat system did not click for me. Maybe I should give it a try once more, the setting was very cool.

Saw that, and Like a Dragon 8 looks cool. I have Ishin imported, got it a long time ago. But then the combat system did not click for me. Maybe I should give it a try once more, the setting was very cool.
I really quite enjoyed Ishin on import. I could be tempted to double-dip with this English release...

Amazingly another Japanese PS4 mahjong game released recently!

つーじゃんせる!! (Two Jong Cell) was released by Arc System Works (who previously released Tottemo E Mahjong). It has six anime girl characters, each with three passive abilities that unlock during play and three active abilities that can be triggered by spending special points. There's also a nice tutorial, challenge mode and story mode - plus it has online play, although I haven't tried that yet. Limited rule options and no offline player stats though.

Looks cool. A bit too much revealing clothes. But it's not like there are loads of mahjong games in PS4, if you ignore Ryuu ga Gotoku and spinoffs. I'll keep my eye on it. Probably I'll get it myself.

Got it (just one day passed since my previous post). As you mentioned has a training mode, which of course, has a section with actual trainings that tells the player about the game and about its system for bonding with the characters. Has a section explaining the Yaku, another with a list of rules for story mode (they cannot be changed), and a cool glossary. And the challenge mode is there, yes. Good presentation there.

Both single and online modes allow to change some rules.
Those modes ask you to select a partner, so it seems is a 2 vs. 2 match where you can use your partner's skills. Being that the case, in the online mode there will be only 2 human players, I guess.

You can edit the online card/profile (can choose a character and facial expression and a background) for the online matches. So far (just started the game and watched a bit of story mode), I was only allowed to select the first character who appeared and background images.

This game shouts "we would love to make a Saki game but have no access to the rights".

Characters are over the top, have big/enormous boobs (except one of them), and are there clearly to please the male gaze. They could be a Senran Kagura ninja team and nobody would bat an eye.

During the story mode you play with a generic, faceless, black haired anime guy, and meet all the girls.

Take for granted the story will be simple and probably has some pervy scenes (maybe not).

Has 4 online related trophies, play free online mode once (does not say win but play), play free online mode 10 times, and the same 2, but for ranked matches mode. Other trophies are related to the rest of the modes, single, story and challenge, and doing specific things such as winning with a Yakuman, completing all sections of the tutorial, that kind of things.

It's funny that the Yakuman trophy is the most commonly obtained one!
I've made them several ways now using various abilities.

I've been working through the challenges but it's tough with all the superpower madness (and always starting with a handicap on your passives).

I'm writing a game guide of course and I'm finding the game really interesting to write about.

Do you want to have a crack at translating the trophy names for me? I know you'd do better than my efforts. :)
Otherwise I think I've figured out everything else I need so far.

I can try, of course. I need to sleep, and tomorrow work a bit, so I won't be able to check on it until 6 p.m or so (UTC time / UK time). But of course, I'll give a shot.

Thanks! I'd appreciate your perspective.

No rush - I'll be hammering away at the challenges for a while as yet and trying to come up with helpful tips.
