Yeah. The apostrophe is totally inappropriate. "Pros" might look weird, so if you don't like "pros" then you could say "pro players" or "professionals" or "professional players"gemma wrote:(Apart from the "pro's" typo. That one has been irritating me for a while now.)

Re: Let's Start Again
I am very sorry that this should have happened,
I know by experience what happens when things go out of control
I haven't been able to write much as well, and I wanted to continue to give updates on my project.
If you need help, as much as I can give, just tell me.

Good news!
Sticky topics are back!
(But why smiley/tiles aren't shown on old posts beats me.)
Other changes to come, as agreed with Jenn:
- A newbie board.
I mean "one new board for both newbie chat and guides".
- Nowadays, "Online mahjong" and "Mahjong Media" forums are pretty much the same.
"Online mahjong" will be dedicated for mahjong softwares (online or offline) and "Mahjong Media" to video, games replay, books.
(I'll probably move some posts between them too.)
One bad news:
This won't be done before Sunday evening at best, for unrelated reasons.

The thing with the tile icons is odd ...the text codes are the same. I guess if you re-edit the posts - and maybe re-add the icons - they'd be shown?
BTW I've since reworked the illustrated waits posts into one of the sections of my PDF guide.

You can't include offline mahjong games in a board called "Online Mahjong"! Can it be renamed?Shirluban wrote:"Online mahjong" will be dedicated for mahjong softwares (online or offline) and "Mahjong Media" to video, games replay, books.

My thoughts exactly. But it didn't work. However, copy-pasting the post content into a new one works.Barticle wrote:The thing with the tile icons is odd ...the text codes are the same. I guess if you re-edit the posts - and maybe re-add the icons - they'd be shown?
I'll keep looking.
I haven't found time to read your guide yet.Barticle wrote:BTW I've since reworked the illustrated waits posts into one of the sections of my PDF guide.
I thought about rewriting the thread if I don't find a clever way to fix this (if I have to manually copy-pasting each post, I can re-paginate it by the way).
But I can as well loot your PDF...
That's the intent.Barticle wrote:You can't include offline mahjong games in a board called "Online Mahjong"! Can it be renamed?

Interesting information from moderator:
"Online Mahjong" - "Discussion on online mahjong software and sites!"
is now:
"Mahjong video games" - "Discussion on on-line and off-line mahjong softwares."
"Mahjong Media" - "Want recommendations or just need help reading those strange Japanese squiggles? "

"Mahjong Media" - "The place for video, sites, games replay, books, ..."

Interesting information from moderator:
Ok!
I've found how to restore the tiles icons and smilies on old posts!
The only thing to do is to edit the posts and uncheck the "Disable smilies" box ... for each post ... manually.
So you'll excuse me to NOT browsing the whole forum and NOT correcting each post.
But I'll do it upon request on specific topics, just PM me.
(don't list the whole forum )

Members who kept their old username can do this to their own old posts - I just fixed the tile pics in one of mine. (summary of entries to the first super-mega competition)

(Not so-)Interesting information from moderator:
The new newbie-friendly forum shows up:
"Mahjong Dojo" - "Guides and beginner's help. If you're new to mahjong, this forum is for you. All questions are welcome - don't hesitate to ask. "
(You may already have spotted this from the front page.)
Of course others boards are still open for newcomers to mahjong and to reachmahjong.com.

More seriously, it now should have the same permissions than the "Reach Mahjong" forum, so it should be ok.
Can you please re-try and let me know?
Thanks.

Merci beaucoup! (correct spelling hopefully) Several of my threads there.
Would you also please move or copy my guide announcement to the Dojo if you think appropriate?

Re: Let's Start Again
Since we're being more proactive and reflective recently, I'm bumping this old thread.
I think I made some good points in my initial 26 July 2010 reply, many of which are still valid (with regard to usability of the homepage and potential integration of articles and chat).
We've been discussing recruitment (marketing) but I wonder if we can do anything about retention (borrowing a term from education). I can think of several quite active posters who left the site and never returned. I know some people move on to new hobbies and some have new work/family commitments, but were we failing to give others what they wanted? Perhaps in some cases it's simply that the boards don't have enough activity (and so we lose users and the problem gets worse). I just wonder if there's anything we can do, perhaps even simply making the effort to post more - sharing information and pictures, asking questions and starting discussions?
Of course not all suggestions are feasible, but I'd like to encourage everyone (old and new users) to share their ideas and perspectives here. Are there any things you'd like to see added, changed or removed from the site? Any new features or services you want? Perhaps existing content that's good but could be made even better?
