While watching the saki anime again, I picked up on a few words that I had to research because they were not translated into english in the subtitles.
These were mostly in episode 5: Katsudon, Ikura, Ebi, and Itadakimasu. (I'm sure there are many more)
This is what I learned:
Katsudon (Fujita's favorite dish)-a bowl of rice topped with a deep fried pork cutlet, egg, and condiments (like onions)
Ikura- salmon eggs
Ebi-breaded and deep fried shrimp, often served with tartar or tonkantsu sauce (japanese style barbecue sauce).
(Is this a mahjong related sauce, ton and kantsu?)

The one that really made my day was Itadakimasu.

I also love katsudon. That itadakimasu explanation was great.

It literally means something along the lines of "we are humbled and honored to receive this food". It's a very Japanese word.

Yup, referee said it.

Itadaku it´s the humble version of morau, to receive.

To make itadaku more polite it becomes itadakimasu. That´s why referee translation is perfect.

Oh yeah, when you end your meal in Japan, you usually use this expression: Gochisô-sama (deshita (can be omited)). Usually gets translated as: "Thank you for the meal"or "that was delicious".

Came across a couple of more words during the lunch break at the nationals in Saki:zenkoku-hen episode 6 that I needed to research. Just about everyone was having a BENTO and one of the girls from Himematsu (South Osaka) brought in a box labeled KONAMON which made the rest of the team very happy. It looked like some sort of cake.
Here's what I learned:
Bento is a single portion meal with rice, fish or meat, and pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.
The Konamon in the box was probably Okonomiyaki since it didn't look like octopus or squid (or noodles).
(Yuuki would prefer the Takoyaki, I presume)

Now the bentô can be anything, it´s food to take in a box so you can eat anywhere.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is translating the Japanese symbols into Japanese symbols you can understand. Those wacky fonts...
