I haven't posted in forever, but when I saw the following talk on Go, Poker and Game Design, the section on Poker reminded me heavily of Mahjong. I hope you find it as interesting as I did!

I think the speaker might have found Akagi/Ten/Kaiji very interesting. I saw a number of resonances between the themes in his talk and those series.

I found it interesting enough to watch the whole thing
The analogies got a bit out of hand but other than that I enjoyed it.

Cool lecture, thanks for sharing.
I like the rules from the 'Elements of Poker' book - enter the game with humility as a student, respect the game and your opponents, embrace techniques and practise them without question (thought?) and treat it as a form of moving meditation. Can apply those to many different activities in life.
