Only 4x3 dragons? Which type? Chung, fa, bai I assume -- no American-style dragons (with pictures of dragons)? (^_^) Just giving you a hard time. But that's a quandary I had to figure out when I was playing around with the same "universal tile set" thing you're doing.
Tom is talking about design variation.
Each tile have some alternative picture (e.g. in some old sets 8pin is red), but dragons beat them all.
ryulusus wrote:By the way Tom, Shirluban, perhaps you could come to definite answer as to if the animal flowers little and big tortoise do exist or not, since Shir stated they are a 164 malaysian deck standard and Tom just said that he had never heard that one before. :) Can you please tell me if it does or not?
I have a series of scans in French, describing a 164 tiles Malaysian rule. Theses scans have been sended to me by the great Tom himself during ancient ages.
I made an English translation (that is not attached, because the forum reject .doc, .pdf and .txt files, as well than files without extension).

Here comes the grim truth: These scans talks about "Little tortoises" and "Big tortoise".
Here comes the other grim truth: These scans are text-only, so I've never seen these tiles myself.
Now that I re-investigate these doc, I do remember the original have some strange parts and may be not "truth-proof".

In conclusion, if these tiles are pulling your tail, just forget them.
You already have more than needed animals anyway.

Are you going to start designing the cards soon
Funny :) I have things set up, since making the cards is not a problem,
getting everything to work... that is the challenge
Go to FAQ 7e on my website. Watch the animated red, green, white dragons -- every known type is in there (including the dragon/phoenix alternative to chung/fa)
Ah ok :) well, I'm actually thinking of making a variant on that, yes, but also keeping the original tiles.
And "American dragon styles" I thought you meant native-american design styles.
Can be anything, so I'll just send some new dragon versions for those who like a twist and artistic card :)
In conclusion, if these tiles are pulling your tail, just forget them.

Yeah, I know, I'll leave most of possible design variations for a second version xD If it comes to pass (hope so)

Here's the list:

4 x 9 Char,
4 x 9 Coins,
4 x 9 Bam,
4 x 4 Winds,
4 x 3 Dragons

4 x Seasons

4 x yakitori
4 x Yakimochi (version of yakitori, same use)

If you don't see any more special (mechanic) tyles and all we have are variations, we'll leave that to a later version and get this going :) I have to start building the Photoshop Templates

And Bart... have fun:

Your original dragon designs (waaaay back at the start of this thread) were cool.

...apart from ol' Red getting stabbed in the head!
Wow!! :o That's fantastic.

A clearly recognisable X-Wing model using an authentic uncut square of paper. Very impressive. 8)

Somebody just wrote me this week and sent a photo of two new animal flowers -- parrot and spider. See http://www.sloperama.com/majexchange/bulletinbd.htm

Fascinating...

I read something on it but I can't link the parrot and the spider, even with the idea presented by the guy,
because I actually see this spider as a Chinese Earth Tiger (Chinese Giant Bird Eaters),
although the tile has a web and they don't make them...

I would see the bird tile not as a parrot but as lunch ^_^

I saw the five poison legend culture variations (one has the three legged toad as well)
and now don't know if I should go with the parrot or with a canary snack (I know, now you have a mental image)

Hi guys

Finally I managed to place something here after a while (project for Christmas at work).

Does anyone know of a site with good public domain photos of Kuan-Yung currency,
or nice Japanese hole-coins? This would make the cards nicer, because then I would have Japanese coins
with very close Chinese equivalents :)

Cheers

No, sorry, but you could consider buying a suitable one and scanning it yourself?

As I think I might've said previously, you'll need to consider how the coins will look with colour added. Even if you don't follow the usual colouring of the pinzu suit you'll want red fives at least.

PS Images on Wikipedia are sometimes provided under a flexible Creative Commons licence or in the public domain.

Alternatively you could find an image you like online and ask the owner for permission to use it.
