Re:game recording for analysis. Good or bad idea?

on the tenyao comment: i find myself finishing with tenyao hands way too often. with the vid that i\'m going to make, i hope that some people can help me in avoiding such hands, and can teach me some ways to go for the higher-point hands that i didnt think of before. Tanyao in and of itself isn\'t ...

Re:game recording for analysis. Good or bad idea?

Well, you\'ve just hit the nail on the head. It takes an experienced player (someone who\'s played at least a year) to make a video worth having other people watch. To review your own play, yes, by all means it\'s good to do, but we have had other people post videos which are unbearable to watch. Li...

Re:Red fives - 3 or 4 or 0?

Is that true of the JPML/EMA rules? I think in some rules temporary furiten is just furiten (no win possible.) I seem to remember Tenhou haku-blocking me on that once. There are three kinds of furiten: self, temporary and permanent. I\'m currently writing an FAQ on it but the global concept of furi...

Re:game recording for analysis. Good or bad idea?

It\'s a good idea as long as a few things are taken care of: 1- The processing of media is well done. No choppy audio, clear video, a voice that can explain what needs to be explained in a good voice. 2- For review purposes, there must be a strategic, tactical and learning point in each clip. \"Look...

Re:How to discard in a "stylish" way?

I slam (within reason) the 3rd, 8th and 9th tile indiscriminately of what my hand is, and slide the 5th and 7th.

It minimizes tells on my hand. Style with a purpose.

Re:Hypothetical hands - how would these be handled?

1) Don\'t know, don\'t care. Too absurd. 2) No. P/K/C always invalidates most start-hands, tenhou, chihou, renhou where counted, and the abortive draws. 3) Tsumo, count what is worth more. Ron, same but if you have 11-222-333s 99p, your waits would be 1-4s, 9p. Having thrown any of them would make y...

Re:Pro Parlor Question

Garthe mentioned that he sometimes goes to high rate parlors: are the rates at such places higher than 1000 yen per 1000 points? Legit* places go up to 100y per 1000pt (30 bucks a game, assuming a flat bust, no uma). I couldn\'t see myself playing for 1000y per 1000pt, or anyone really, unless they...

Re:Yakuman Club

Well, I\'m into the yakuman club as of last week, Chiho. 444567 - 345 - 3457 : Dealer drops white, North decides to let it slide... South (me) picks 7s and wins. I\'ve made it to 12 han before, but never 13 counted. I guess this was the best path to victory. That and I\'ve dealt into a Pure Nine Gat...

Re:More Thoughts About Menzen Tsumo

And in Extended Washizu (my own ruleset, I will post it later when it is more complete), uradora works differently and depends on discarded tiles (as well as a few other things). I don\'t think we\'re playing the same game anymore. I can understand the fanboyism of wanting to say \"I play Usagi sty...

Re:SURVEY: Rules and Variance

Ippatsu is not luck. While given the current direction of discussion (and I\'m not saying it\'s right either), some waits are better than others. Unless you\'re playing by a forced riichi rule, there are multiple ways of waiting on tiles. If everybody waited only on one tile or a two-side wait (say ...
