Yes, that happens too! Tsumo fests are the worst xD But that's one thing I love about Mahjong. Just remember to keep your head cool & play efficiently.
I remember Puyo from Osamuko Mahjong group once mentioned not winning 17 (!!!) consecutive Riichis (does it have a plural??)

Krabman's Tenhou adventures
Hey! Inspired by Mauro, I've decided to make a topic in which I will ask you for opinions on different Tenhou situations. I don't have anything at the moment, so for starters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lht0DfnJ4lY I now play fast Tonpuusen. My first recording ever. I've avoided doing that for ...

Re: Do you push?
Thanks! Shimocha in iishanten hell :D I feel you! I've once had like 10x3rd in a row... I think it's best to assume you're doing something wrong, analyze your playing & ask for opinions of others (which you do!). Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between (a lack of) luck & wrong/good decisi...

Re: Do you push?
This is very interesting and I don't know what's the best play here. By winning, you can jump to 2nd in oorasu. Opponents' hands don't look very expensive but even a cheap Ron means 4th place in S4. Haku is even more dangerous because it adds 1 Han to the winner. I wonder what Shimocha is doing with...

Correct! Yes, one of those situations where that little stick makes a difference.

Re: Do you riichi?
Hanetsumo = Haneman Tsumo If I'm correct, even a direct Haneman wouldn't put you in 4th place. The Tenhou rule of thumb is: 'when there's no risk of falling to 4th, go for 1st'. So no, I don't think I'd fold. Maybe... if I had to discard Dora during Kamicha's ippatsu turn. I'm still a beginner so my...

Re: Do you riichi?
I think dama is standard in such situations. It's better to catch someone off guard or just pull a Hanetsumo out of
nowhere

Re: Do you meld?
Scott Miller's advice is spot on! I've recently dealt into a really silly dabu Ron while pursuing a pointless cheap hand. One of those times when my discipline took a break

Re: Do you meld?
I think I'd meld but Haku only to keep as many tiles in my hand as possible. I'd hope to get something around 4p, 8p and to expand the Manzu shape. So, Pon, discard 1s.
Stopping Shimocha is crucial but the most important thing is to not a get a silly Ron before oorasu.

Re: Do you riichi?
Yeah, Riichi was a good play but with Tsumo you'd have 2000/3900 ;p
Yeah, that's a great thing to do (hiding the hands) as they can subconsciously influence our analysis.

Re: Do you riichi?
I don't think our decisions should be judged on the basis of seeing opponents' hands (hindsight bias). During the game, you didn't know they had all 7m. That Ron didn't improve your position & none of the opponents were aggressive, therefore that win could've been skipped in hopes for tsumo which wo...

Re: Do you riichi?
I think Riichi with that last hand was a good play. When exactly did the Ron happen? Were Toimen/Kamicha aggresive? Can you post screenshots of that Ron?
Tsumo would have given you 2nd place so I'm wondering if there had been time for that.
