Re: Has anyone tried playing on Maru_Jan?
True that!
On the other hand, I enjoy watching Maru-Jan videos on YT:

Watching Tsuchida Koushou (and others) play Maru-Jan is always fun! I've picked up a few useful things from watching, even though I don't understand Japanese haha

Re: Do you riichi?
I might be missing something, but not really. In general, all middle suit tiles discarded out of someone's hand in mid-game are very likely to come out of various shapes. It could be a completed set, taatsu or someone could just be trying to fool you with karaten (swapping two identical tiles). A lo...

Re: Do you riichi?
That's a very interesting push/pull situation. I have a lot to improve in that field myself...Anyway... here are my thoughts: The hand is really tempting. Great wait. Dora 2 and only one 1s unaccounted for. Oya most likely doesn't have it. But with ippatsu/ura, getting a Mangan here is not hard. 45m...

Re: Mahjong at the movies?
Oops! So they didn't want to bother reading the rules and showing a valid hand, but they sacrificed their precious time to make a mock Mahjong game...
Oh well, nobody but us, Mahjong freaks, will care anyway!:D

Re: Mahjong video
Yeah, Gnom - the more videos you make the better they're gonna get. It'll take some time for people to really get comfortable with cameras at all times.
Barticle's suggestion is really cool. I wanna try that too!

Re: to pass up a win?
Probably a silly question but why did the game end there? I see that negative scores were allowed. Passing up a win is also valid in case of Ron that makes a player bankrupt and the win doesn't improve your position in the game. That's only for rulesets with no negative scores, such as Tenhou. I've ...

Re: Mahjong video
I think that the previous video had better camera angles - cameras were set a bit higher and farther from the table (?). The discard pile of Minh Tri is barely visible/not visible at all throughout the video. This could be related to those 'technical issues' category you mentioned, though. Do you do...

Re: Ranking
I just followed the system used by the Polish Mahjong League for non-EMA tournaments. Table points: 1st - 10; 2nd - 7; 3rd - 4; 4th - 1. I wanted to emphasize places, not points. In case of tied TP, final positions were decided based on Tenbo. The last criterion was number of 1st places each player ...
