Re: Best non-yakuman revisited
Ryanpeiko: If you're interested in a short discussion, check out "Question about ryan peikou" from back in 2010. http://reachmahjong.com/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=52529 Anyway, after 1360 games and 15,000 hands, I finally got one!! Riichi, Menzen Tsumo, pinfu, Ryanpeikou, and a red 5 dora. (Hanem...

Re: Rule question: declared richi and red fives
Let me see if I understand this correctly. You are saying that because the hand "can" be set up as 1-bam 2-bam 3-bam 1-bam 2-bam 3-bam 1-bam 2-bam 3-bam 8-dot 8-dot 8-dot 9-crak (even though I dont see why anyone would do this when they are sitting on a monster hand), that calling a kan with the 1,2...

Best non-yakuman revisited
While browsing the forum, I ran across a topic from 2012 which caught my interest, "The Best Non-Yakuman Hands you've gotten". http://reachmahjong.com/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=53017 I decided not to add to it because I found some of the earlier posts to be somewhat unfriendly. So lets try again....

Re: how intelligent is "artificial intelligence"?
For some time now, I still find myself occasionally thinking about the basic differences between playing mahjong video games and playing against real people. After posting my 1000 game statistical analysis, I noticed some differences and formed my own opinions. After browsing the Mahjong in MAME web...

Yakuman Club Revisited
When I first started playing this game, I didn't think I would ever get a yakuman. They seemed impossible. As of today, I have attained 5 different ones, 2 in the last week. Having just browsed through 17 pages containing 254 posts in "Yakuman Club" (only 9 during the past year), I thought I would g...

Re: Kazoe Yakuman
Pretty sure this is my first one of these. Had to look it up. (Barticles Guide p.58)
Riichi, Ippatsu, CSD, Pinfu, Ittsu, Chinitsu, and a Dora. 13 han, wow!
It was South 4th and I was in 3rd place, as East. 48,000 pts helped. Looks nice, too.

Re: A Strategy and Scoring question
Thanks for all your replies. One more question: The hand above was credited as 50 Fu 40 Han. What exactly does the 40 represent?
A 13+ han non-dealer win is also worth 32,000 pts. Where does that 40 Han com from?

A Strategy and Scoring question
I called riichi and drew a 1-bam for my first SU ANKO, a 32,000 pt tsumo yakuman win. I have a few questions? 1) Should I have called riichi in the first place? 2) If the 1-bam came up as a discard, Should one ever consider passing it up and go for the self-pick? ( In my situation, I dont think so b...

Re: severely in need of an english translation!
This is regarding the MAHJONG NAGOMI app. It has a japanese/english button so I have included a japanese ruleset page as well as its english translation. Problem is, there are more lines of rules (14) in japanese than in english (10). Have no idea whats missing? Also, there are 2 of them where i'm n...

Re: A question on waits?
Both of you have mentioned "ponning your head". Not sure I know what that means. Can you explain?
I know it doesnt mean banging my head against the wall, which I felt like doing.

Re: A question on waits?
I have a question regarding a game situation that has occurred more than once for me. Suppose my hand is exposed except for 2-dot 3-dot 4-dot 5-dot 6-dot . I am waiting for a 4-dot or a 7-dot for the tanyao win. I draw a 1-dot from the wall. I cant keep it because my hand is open and when I discard ...

Not sure, but I think this is my first. Don't recall seeing that number "3" before.
Riichi, menzen tsumo, pinfu, iipeiko, and 7 dora.

Re: thought I had a good one!
No problem! I'm glad you took the time to respond in the first place. I just finished a game where I thought I might have another good one but I wasn't holding my breath. Being in 4th place on the last hand, with my hand full of crap, I decided to go for it, and it happened. The game ended in a draw...

Re: thought I had a good one!
Yes, I knew I didn't qualify for San Anko (three concealed pungs) when I claimed the discard. It was not getting credit for the San Renko (three consecutive pungs) that surprised me. I mean, Why have a Su Renko (four consecutive pungs) even exist as an optional hand if the San Renko doesn't count? A...

thought I had a good one!
When I claimed the 4-dot that south discarded, I thought I had a REALLY good one! There was Toi-Toi, and four doras, and me in the east seat, and since 3 of the pungs were consecutive in the same suit (SAN RENKO), I had a total of 8 han, or so I thought. NO CREDIT FOR THE SAN RENKO. It's not that I ...
