Re: Analysis: Mauro's Games - 05

By the way, I was wondering: do you find suji (beside the usual omote) so useful? I rember to have read on Just Another Japanese Mahjong Blog that - according to the author - at least some of them are proven wrong, and don't really affect the risk of the tiles, so he doesn't even explain them. I'm ...

Re: Analysis: Mauro's Games - 05

I don't always follow suji theories when I play. But it's definitely something to practice if we want to get to Houou someday  Since kamicha was gettin closer to tenpai with almost every single discard, we could treat that as a "late game" situation which makes matagi suji theory viable. 1s...

Re: Analysis: Mauro's Games - 05

It depends on how you look at the shape 134556. I see that as a complete pair and a ryankan, therefore 1-3-5 & 456. By discarding 1m you'd weaken the shape. It's better to keep it together as it's still early. If you draw 1m you will have a pair, a set and a ryanmen! 2m will also give you two sets. ...

Re: Analysis: Mauro's Games - 05

I'm only 2 Dan too! Here are my thoughts: E2: 5th turn - I think you could've kept that Dora and discard 9p in hopes of building a wait around lower Souzu. 5689 shape has an overlapping wait of 7. With such an aggressive Oya (Mangan/Haneman), that 5p tanki Riichi was MUCH too risky in my opinion. I ...

Re: Do you riichi?

My 3 cents: since there's 1 Dora, I'd go for ryanmen here. The points are pretty even so the priority is to maximize your winning chances. Kanchan would be useful if you needed a Haneman late in South round OR if you had no Dora.

Re: Some more beautiful scenes of Japanese life

Amazing! The ambience is captured perfectly!!!

Am I the only one who imagines Kazuma Kiryu running on each & every shot (in the videos)? :D

Re: how did you learn about mahjong?

It seems that anime/manga are the main Mahjong ambassadors! Cool to read all your stories! My first ever encounter with Mahjong was a Net Yaroze game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu5VQyCXJOg I first came across Riichi while playing Yakuza 2 for PS2 with my friend, Elvis. There was a story missio...

Re: Discarding techniques tutorial

Thanks for the feedback!

You're right :) That's why I added 'skip the bullshit' option in the description.

I plan to do a few more videos, maybe in a different, more straight-to-the-point way.

Re: A few simple questions, maybe

Here are my suggestions: 1st screen - I'd go with Sha. None of them have been discarded so it could be that Toimen is waiting for his Yakuhai. I'd just wait to Pon Chun. I'd say it might be a hard one to win as all players seem to be collecting Souzu :D Chun could also not come out at all. I wonder ...

Re: Fast Mahjong

Wow, thanks! I assumed there could be some rules specific to this form of Riichi. For such games to make sense you need really solid players so that it all doesn't change into chaos :D As of now, there's no way I could keep up with that pace AND play my best. I think I will try it out at our club so...

Fast Mahjong

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this style of Mahjong & the guy who came up with it? I've seen a video where that guy (a famous gambler I assume) was telling some background story (I think) but, of course, I didn't understand a thing :D
