Re: OK - I finally jumped into MahjongSoul today...
Mahjong Soul is a decent platform to play on, though as mention the player base is smaller than Tenhou. But on the upside, it is fully in English. Worth noting that the general impression of the lower levels of MahjongSoul (Bronze Room specifically) is that there is a LOT of calling, which is not us...

Re: What rules do you use? 3.0 (2020 edition)
My question: If agari yame is off and the hand keeps going, does it only continue with dealer wins, or with dealer tenpai as well? If agari yame is on, can the leading dealer choose to end the match with a tenpai draw, or only with a win.? ( in other words, Is tenpai yame included in agari yame?) M...

Re: What rules do you use? 3.0 (2020 edition)
Most of my in-person play has been at the Melbourne Mahjong Meetup (till COVID-19 prevented things for the foreseeable future), where we usually play standard Tenhou Rules, or WRC Rules in the lead up to tournaments. However, personally, if I can to pick my own ruleset I'd be going with: (Note this ...

Re: How to deal when there are 2 winners
But is it fair to extend the game just because the last dealer is fortunate enough to win the last hand. That's like penalizing him for winning by saying "the game will only end when you lose a hand." (and he could end up losing the match) I don't see agari yame as ending the game EARLY. I see agar...

Re: How to deal when there are 2 winners
On browsing the link above regarding riichi rules, provided by Shirluban, I was surprised to see so many X's for Agari Yame. (and for bankruptcy too) I employ both rules in all four of my mahjong groups and the ladies really love it and find it very exciting when it occurs. We had one occasion wher...

Re: Tsumo overrides ron in WRC?
Honestly, I do agree with you on the timing. It's something I've had to struggle with recently at the Melbourne Mahjong Meetup. Not so much the case of rons etc, but players not being aware of all their tiles etc. It falls a bit under the umbrella of being able to play fast. I am generally of the op...

Re: Tsumo overrides ron in WRC?
A late ron is allowed, even after the next player has drawn. Calls for ron can be made until the next player discards or declares a win by self-draw, riichi, concealed kan or promoted kan. Are you saying that a late ron is allowed even if the player calling ron had more than enough time to do so (a...

Re: Tsumo overrides ron in WRC?
Short Answer: No, the next player does not get a chance to draw after a Ron call. Long Answer: I believe the clarification is an attempt to deal with special cases that could arise out of the following "rule": Fair play should be observed to allow some leeway. Especially if the next player was notab...

Re: Pung vs Chow: who wins?
I love how after "Don't thank me for playing your game, fix this bug" the first line of their reply was "Thanks for playing our game!" But yeah as was mentioned, while there are rulesets where the call order trumps call type, it's not something that makes sense for a game (what with latency in...

Happy New Year all! That's an awesome shirt or2az!
Re: WWYD
Extremely late to this party, apologies. I think I'm with Barticle on this one, and I'd throw the 2m (probably from within my hand). The chance of Iipeikou is slim, and even then we will almost certainly lose pinfu for it. So we're likely only going to get 2 han, so might as well go for the easier t...

Re: JPML video guide series in English (with Garthe and Jenn)
Looks like a couple more have been uploaded over the last couple weeks:
#4 Speed vs. Points
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcUZtKkNGXY
#5 Choosing a Wait
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ9o6vRrc6g
Might be worth collecting all the links up in the first post for easy discovery?

Depends on what kind of news you're looking for. RiichiReporter does some news reporting, though it doesn't cover tournaments in details. https://riichireporter.com/
