Re: Quick Note on Sega Net MJ

Yea. Despite the limitations on playing with Sega Mahjong for free - the AI is actually smarter than most AI. To win, you actually have to try. Though, agari renchan is not fair.

Re: Probability of being dealt ten tiles of one suit?

Amazing how a seemingly simple question concerning a probability turns into an educational math lesson. Great Stuff! (Anyone want to learn how to solve 1 equation with 2 unknowns.......just kidding....er....maybe) Mahjong probability is anything but simple because the probabilities themselves are d...

Well, I misread Tenhou.net's documentation; and it is indeed 20/10.

Re: Scoring calculation (Menzen-kafu and Pinfu + more)

I used Barticle's method to calculate the Uma in this article: http://a.pqrs.se/wiki/Final_scores Personally, I am convinced that the math is correct per Barticle's book. However, I read documentation that Tenhou.net does (+30/+10/-10/-30). http://tenhou.net/man/index.html So, what did I do wrong he...

Re: Furiten question

Furiten asks you the question:

"What are you tenpai for?"

In actuality, you can call ron for that 1-pin; but you get chombo for not having yaku.
when you passed up an opportunity to take a RON WIN. (Barticles guide, p43)
He needs to fix that.

Thankfully, I never got to enforce these. They weren't my rules to begin with.

But which one? Player closest to the discarder or player farthest to the discarder?

Re: Riichi dec. and rinchan kaihou

After a riichi call, I've done a sad case of a "proxy rinshan" (my own coined term), where my rinshanpai after the riichi was a winning tile - for someone else (hence proxy).

Re: Rule question: declared richi and red fives

No. During riichi - the hand cannot be changed under all circumstances. In fact, it is improper to change your hand with the same exact tile. Theoretically, this case is not a big deal.

Basically, if what you drew is not a winning tile, you discard it. No questions.
