Re: Custom Rule of the Day: Three Years on the Stone
I actually went and looked up all the local yaku as well (before we actually had the in game so was flying very blind), and found this site VERY useful https://www29.atwiki.jp/mahjlocal/ (all in Japanese unfortunately). Three Years on the Stone was the only one I couldn't find on places like Japanes...

Re: RM.com site - problems reports
The only thing I've noticed which is different is that the Reach Mahjong logo at the top now links back to the site's homepage, rather than the forum's main page. Same with the Home link in the current location under Quick Links The section that looks like this: Home < Board index < reachmahjong.com...

Re: another gameplay question
I think I'd take Chitoitsu here and throw the 9-bam As for why... Currently first, still early in the game so no need to get overly reckless. Also North's discards seems a bit fishy. They've got a long string of Tsumogiri's (draw and discard the same tile), and they held on to the West over the 7-do...

Re: Tenhou Riichi twitch streamer
Yeah the "Twitch plays..." idea is an interesting one, I believe Gemma re-streams the stream when she is not streaming herself (Gemma streams most days at https://www.twitch.tv/mahjonggem for those interested, usually Doman Mahjong on FFXIV). Would be interesting to get enough people on to see how i...

Re: RM.com site - problems reports
So I'm going to assume this is due to the redesign of the home page of this site (which got revamped on the 17th of May I hadn't noticed till today, since I've only been checking the forums)... Probably a php upgrade and the forums didn't also get it?

Re: Discard reading
I feel that there might be a bit of a stretch to get ALL that information from just those discards (tenpai possibly, but being certain about the 36p wait seems a bit far fetched to me, but I could be wrong. Also it could be based on some of the other discards and what the person themselves has in th...

Re: oh boy!
That's awesome! Always great to see new groups popping up and Riichi Mahjong expanding in general. Apparently the group I joined in February was a tiny group that struggled to put together 2 tables each week till shortly before I joined when it blew up, and now we regularly have 4 tables, and people...

M-League
Who's been following the M-League? I'll admit I came to it quite late, so I only caught the tail end of the regular season and now the finals series. Our very own Garthe has written a couple articles for RiichiReporter on the finals series: https://riichireporter.com/m-leagues-march-madness/ https:/...

Re: Mahjong Fight Club Grand Master
Ahh this is the one they've been playing as ads on the streams! (can't remember if it was FreshLive, or Abema, or both) Really makes me want to get back into MFC. Any kind of console release at this point would be nice, not sure we've had one in a number of years now. Switch maybe?

Re: Mahjong Wait Quiz
In short... Life happened  Had to pull back on Mahjong for a bit while I got other stuff sorted out. And moved back to Aus in the middle of it all. All this has meant I've dropped off a lot in my mahjong skills, but working on getting them back! Ah, I hadn't seen the Speed Chin'itsu one before...

Re: Mahjong Wait Quiz
It could help to make the interface smaller, so it would fit in the window. Thanks for checking it out! Would you happen to have a screenshot of the issue you're having with the UI? It should in theory scale with window size properly. (Unless this is about the word "Hand" getting cut off by the win...

Mahjong Wait Quiz
It's been ages since I posted here :O But I'm back! (well, I have been for a month, just haven't posted <.< >.>) and just wanted to let people know about a Mahjong Wait Quiz I put together, initially for my own study, but figured it would be useful to others as well. It still needs a bit of UI work ...

Re: Optional Rules
http://saikouisen.com/rule.php Looking things up I had the wrong "Saikouisen." I was referring to the tournament of the same name which is actually run by Kindai Mahjong rather than the Saikouisen Pro Association as I had assumed. The tournament did use an Oka. Rules listed here (in Japanese): http...

Re: Optional Rules
Oka : I believe oka to be mostly a parlor rule, to ensure the winner wins enough to pay the table fee. Unfortunately both the NPM and the Saikouisen use it in their tournaments. JPML doesn't, at least not in their A rules. I don't remember if the B rules had it or not though, I THINK they didn't. A...

Re: Optional Rules
I would even say that Oka is a gambling-related bonus while Uma is one designed for sensible placement bonuses. I don't think that Oka and the lopsided point spread it creates have any place in competitive mahjong. If you want Shanyu, you can still use it without Oka. Yeah I personally really don't...
