Re: Overview of current mahjong video-games

So in regards to installing Google Play apps from across regions, there might be a relatively simple way. Although MAJOR caveat here: I used the same google account I now have in Aus, while I was in Japan, and it still apparently has a Google Play Balance in JPY (about 81 yen) which is listed as "Un...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

One last clarification and hint for the first solution: Specifying a hand that's closed and without kongs was just a way of saying you have exactly fourteen tiles and none are locked in sets. However I could've said that you have no declared kongs... I was thinking of being cheeky and claiming Suuk...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

Hmm ok, will take another crack at this shortly and see if I can come up with anything before the answers are posted. EDIT: Ok some of my thoughts. There seem to be a few sticking points: Being able to draw ANY tile and have it stick to the hand (and not go back in shanten) Being in Yakuman Tenpai, ...

Re: No matter what you cut, it works perfectly

Quick clarification... is the assumption that you're not in tenpai before your draw? or is being in tenpai allowed? (and the tsumo does not complete the hand)

Re: Riichi Scoring Website / Android Camera App

https://www.reddit.com/r/Mahjong/comments/cicql2/automatic_riichi_mahjong_calculator/ The payments for any valid hand are calculated, even if the hand is yaku nashi. This is a "feature" that ended up being a "design choice". How the calculator works is that it first tries to assemble a valid hand. ...

Re: Riichi Scoring Website / Android Camera App

This hand been a really interesting thread to read! Though based on the Rinshan explanation, I feel the developer has watched a tad too much Saki  This bit has be confused though: "This is a by product of the payments of any valid hand being calculated. This matches the 7 pair shape for a valid...

Yes, it seemed to fit. I only just realized it's probably the similarity to "arvo". :)
Heh despite not having a strong Aussie accent myself, that's how I've been pronouncing it, so you're not wrong

Re: Australian Riichi Mahjong Open announced!

I'll probably only be attending as a participant. Most of the work has been done by the head of the Melbourne Meetup Group and the folks from ARMA over in Sydney. Though I've been a secret proofreader of some of the documents  Still I am getting involved by reading "ARMO" in an Australian accen...

Australian Riichi Mahjong Open announced!

For all my fellow Australians (or any nearby internationals who might be interested), the first Australian Riichi Open has been announced for later this year! It will also be doubling as a WRC Qualifer event for those who might be interested in that as well. The ARMO will run over two days, 7th and ...

Re: Pro-level discard-reading

YES! I'm actually surprised I didn't link that here yet! (I seem to link it in discords whenever the topic comes up :D ) There are a couple other episodes with subtitles (the first Ooi Takaharu - 多井隆晴 one is the only one I know off the top of my head though), and some more have Chinese ones (if that...

Re: Custom Rule of the Day: Toriuchi

This is a fascinating rule! It's really interesting to see the ways in which people come up with to raise stakes in Mahjong. Speaking of custom rules, have you ever come across any that block calling of a tile? I think MondoTV has a physical "Mondo Barrier" that you put a tile in when discarding tha...

Re: Custom Rule of the Day: Nagashi Mangan

Yeah this is one I'm always aware of but have never managed to get. It's, as you said, almost always easier to go for a Terminal/Honour yaku than to aim for Nagashi. I'm sure I'll get it one day, but it will probably come from me realising it's possible about half way through the hand, after I've al...

The guy puts down a 7p and all three girls try to take it but he declares a win on it.
Wait, so when he puts down the 7p is he declaring tsumo then? All 4 players were waiting on the same tile?

... Damn Nikaido Rumi's luck is strong. Might go back and watch the whole thing later, kind of want to see how her hand got to that point. I guess she was aiming for tanyao?
