Re:Review of Japanese-Mahjong.com's Game Set

I\'m perfectly content with my Take set and have no need for another, at least at this time. But if others in my circle decide to obtain a Japanese set I would consider going in on an order since this reduces the shipping cost dramatically. Johnston, thanks for the link! Very interesting - its a sha...

Re:Review of Japanese-Mahjong.com's Game Set

Thanks for the link to the Taiyo Plastic website, David! Not to change the subject, but the tiles that appear in the videos of Japanese Riichi contests utilizing mechanical tables appear to have tiles that are a bit thicker than standard. Since these tiles have embedded magnets, the reason for their...

Re:Review of Japanese-Mahjong.com's Game Set

Nice review, Mattias! Since many of us have zero access to these sets except via images on the internet, it is useful to have reviews of this sort. The Junk Mat is an intriguing accessory, but the durability of it would be a concern - hopefully it will wear very well and give many years of service. ...

Re:My New Take Set - Initial Impressions

The stylized \"notch\" and the butterscotch coloring suggest the traditional bone and bamboo, so it would be somewhat incongruous for the notch to be combined with a different color other than butterscotch. But that is the point: if I were to have another set I\'d like it to be with a different colo...

Re:My New Take Set - Initial Impressions

In a way, I wish I had purchased the Sango instead of the Take because of the \"notch\" in the tiles that commemorates the original bone and bamboo sets.

Is the Sango really made in Japan or made in China for the Japanese market?

Even if I don\'t play like a Japanese Riichi hustler, I can resemble one as soon as I master this technique...

Re:The Best 3 Player Rules Set

Well, you could play 2-Player Mahjong! How do you do that? Set up the walls as usual but you take your opponent\'s tiles off the wall for her and place them in front of you with their faces facing your opponent. She does likewise for you. At no point do you tou touch your own tiles or have your opp...

Re:The Best 3 Player Rules Set

Hi Gg, The scoring in three-player is much easier than standard rules scoring. You can do it on the fingers of one one hand: http://japanese-mahjong.com/3pmjpage11.html I cut my mahjong teeth on 3player mj. I\'d be interested to hear how you get on with it. Best wishes, David H David, Mucho thanks ...

Re:The Ultimate Mahjong Table?

Aren\'t those damn mechanical tables noisy as hell? I watched a video once and it sounded like rocks were being broken up!

Re:Table cloth

Insofar as mahjong playing surfaces are concerned, what the heck would I know? But I\'ve made two playing surfaces since last summer, when I contracted Mahjong Fever. I made a nice overlay for a standard card table in order to capture the raised borders of the tables I see in videos... http://boardg...

Re:The Best 3 Player Rules Set

From http://japanese-mahjong.com/3pmjintro.html
There is no \"Chi\" in the three-player game. In other words a player cannot complete a run of three tiles by claiming a tile from the person to his left as is the case in the four-player game.
Is chi permitted if it results in a ron?
