Re: Do you riichi?

Yeah. Could be from these shapes. Say 556 Sou, 468 Man. Draw 4s, discard 5. Draw 7m for tenpai, discard 4m. Riichi. Just one of the many possibilities.

Re: to pass up a win?

Well, given that you riichi'd, might as well call it. hehe. Lucky ura dora, but it's still a haneman without it (18000 on oya ron). That wouldn't have ended the game, however, as shimocha would hang on with 1.5 there. (Not an ideal situation unless your name is Ikeda Kana)

Re: severely in need of an english translation!

Without the kanji it is a guess what kou and suu are indicating here. Maybe listening to the voices could give an indication. I have to throw a small correction to shirluban. おじさん (ojisan) doesn't mean "grandpa". It means "uncle", or in this case, adult man (but not an elder). "Grandpa" is おじいさん (oj...

Re: mathematical probability question

Slight (Veeeeeeery slight) overstimation because of double counting. (ie, the cases in which there are three copies each of two tiles are counted twice), but also slight understimation because we're looking for the cases where there are exactly three copies of a tile in the dead wall, so the cases w...

Re: Do you riichi?

You mean Suuankou. Suukantsu is four kan. Anyway, Suuankou Tanki is double yakuman (if allowed) whether by ron or tsumo, so I'd say damaten in this case.

Re: Analysis: Mauro's Games - 04

Discarding 1s gives you tenpai on 37 tiles: 123456m 34567p (assuming none are visible outside your hand). 5p only goes to tenpai on 26 tiles: 123456m 123s. You can click on any of those tiles (in the appropriate row) to see the next-shanten tiles (in this case your waits) should you draw the tile yo...

Re: When to wait

Not much to gain? I see a potential menpin sanshoku there, and it's go-around 6. But then again, what do I know? Kick on the face by the wall giving you that 4m that would have been tsumo, but the tiles are playful like that. Q: Where you oya? Because if you were, you should have just gone the quick...

One of the guys. Probably Akagi, because that guy is an uncanny natural. Saki will end with +/-0 Akagi may be uncanny but Saki is certainly never unKANny. ;) Really? And you know how these things should be announced? PUN! Do a mix like in this pic, and you'll get a serious beating from these ladies...

What I meant is that it simplifies the calculation, if done by head. If you go by charts, I agree it's not a simplification. Anyway, I agree it should be 25-2.

Which it may seem so but it is NOT equivalent. IMHO, 50-1 for Chiitoi is apocryphal, and just an unnecessary simplification of calculations. Because now... Menchin Chiitoi? 25-8 (baiman), or 50-7 (haneman)?

Re: open pinfu (jumbo shrimp)

I saw this thing somewhere else. It put it in the form of a chart. With pinfu-shape (four sequences, double-sided wait, no scoring pair) RON TSUMO OPEN 22* 22* CLOSED 30 20 Without pinfu-shape RON TSUMO OPEN 20 22 CLOSED 30 22 And then add fu for triplets, pair, or wait. * Since no more fu are added...
