Re: Riichi Copenhagen Open, 2-3 October 2010

Neither Riichi Copenhagen Open, nor Kinryu Majan Taikai in the Netherlands are having much success with subscribers from abroad this year, with only two foreigners having signed up for each. Is there something we can do better in order to attract you guys? Last year we had a lot of foreigners playin...

Re:Dutch Red 5 Tournament

Hanchans (E-S game) here take 50min tops! Player experience is probably the most important factor in how long time it takes to play one hand, but in Europe there are other factors which are non-existent in Japan, I guess. Mixing of tiles is quite time consuming, and even more so with less experienc...

Re:Dutch Red 5 Tournament

Timing clocks are not needed and not practical at all for mahjong. A normal turn takes 1-3 seconds; having to deal with a clock would make the game go considerably slower. I\'m afraid it would be a disturbance rather than a helping tool.

Dutch Red 5 Tournament

In her report from the Red 5 Tournament Gemma has this remark: \"The dealership bonus is so strong that it can really swing results, so it can be very frustrating if you don’t get both. Perhaps the next step in this trial would be to see how the game mechanics would work without dealer continuances....

Re:Site Suggestions

I get the same as Esh; when logging in I get a new window of the front page, not the forum, then have to click on the forum again, leaving me with three RM.com tabs open. But lately it seems that the auto-logout has been removed, so the problem is much diminished; now I only rarely need to login.

Re:Open Tanyao

@shirluban regarding EMA rules and red fives. I must admit that I never considered the lack of red fives to be a problem to consider. Before some of us brought home real Japanese sets after travelling to Japan, we simply marked the fives of our Chinese plastic tiles with a red marker pen. It wears ...

Re:Open Tanyao

This sounds to me like you\'re trying to educate players by forcing them into (or, as the case may be, preventing them from) playing a certain style. Yes, but please remember it\'s not like I (or EMA) invented a new rule. For the moment I believe this will give a better balance to the game play at ...

Re:Rules for start

WSoM Balancing All terminals in WSoM is 3x harder to achieve than 13 orphans and yet they are comparable in riichi! That\'s just because you hit the ceiling/limit in riichi. All Terminals is very much harder than 13 Orphans. Actually I think that when it comes to pure tile statistics WSoM is the mo...

Re:Open Tanyao

Hi guys, thanks for your comments. I should also thank Gemma for taking up the subject, because it is indeed worth discussing.

Open Tanyao

Hi, This is in response to Gemma\'s Journal on EMA riichi rules: http://www.reachmahjong.com/home/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=514&Itemid=1 However, should things like open tanyao be opened for discussion, now that the players are more established? Should there be a more dem...

New link for EMA riichi rules pdf

The web site of the European Mahjong Association is currently being reconfigured. This means the links for the riichi rules have changed. The link for the English rules is now: http://mahjong-europe.org/files/riichirules_EN.pdf There are also versions in French and Polish, and a German version is co...

Riichi app for iPhone

A nice riichi app for iPhone is available. I only played it a few times, the robots seem fairly defensive, the game is nice for training since you can play two winds very fast. It has dora, ura dora, kan dora, kan ura dora and ippatsu. Red fives optional. It claims to play with furiten (lost hand) b...
