Re: Krabman's Tenhou adventures
New Tenhou video is up! No talking, no music, just Mahjong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOYZ-nqNZQ4 E1-2 I'm not sure if going for Ittsuu was the optimal choice. I sacrificed 5p and later on 1m which would've allowed me to steal Yakuhai E4-1 I was aiming for a better tenpai by leaving that Souzu...

Re: Discard Backfire
I agree with what's been said. It's important to distinguish between backfires that follow correct (on average) play and backfires due to poor discard choices. The first type can't be helped and it's best to simply acccept them as a part of Mahjong's charm :D The second kind is something to learn fr...

Re: Haneman Hunters club games
Thank you! I'd love to post a full game someday. Rendering would probably take a whole day xD Although, with 4 cameras I don't necessarily have to make it Full HD...
BTW: how long does it take you to render full games, Gnom?

Re: Haneman Hunters club games
A new video! I wonder which camera angle you guys prefer? Close-up or a wider one with all discards showing all the time? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyhxlN2xUjM Any suggestions for possible improvements are welcome! :) If Gnom sees that: I used your system for players' names, I hope you don't m...

Re: Logical fallacies & Mahjong
I hope more and more players will play Mahjong seriously, not just casually - then we will have more clubs in Europe & more active players who like to discuss strategy and share their experience & knowledge with others. I'm really happy that you're so active in that department! :) Yeah, Japan is a t...

Re: Mahjong video
I don't think it's cheating if it's for the sake of a more accurate commentary. However, I tend to do the same in my Mahjong videos, which have plenty oversights :D Leaving them as they are gives people an opportunity to point out the slip-ups, which people love to do :D At least you know they're wa...

Re: okkake riichi
I think the most important factor is your wait. If it's a ryanmen with most tiles available, go for it. If you're waiting on a genbutsu of the first Riichi - it's even better. If you have no safe tiles/suji, you may attack regardless of the wait, I think. I guess it also depends on your style - whet...

Re: Logical fallacies & Mahjong
That's interesting! I think that even if it takes more time, learning everything on your own is more satisfying. Also, I think you naturally incorporate what you've just discovered to your playing whereas stuff that you read (or that someone tells you) needs more time to sink in.

Re: Mahjong video
I think the commentary was pretty good. It would be great to see more ambiguous situations next time, if such occur
BTW: regarding 6:40 in the video - didn't Seiko already discard 9s on second turn? In which case there'd be no chance for Oya to have 2 Doras.

Re: Logical fallacies & Mahjong
Thanks A LOT! You've made some great points there. So regression to the mean would apply in certain vague analyses? Hindsight bias & outcome bias don't help at all. The other thing is that many people simply prefer to attribute wins to themselves and make losses someone else's fault (self-serving bi...

Logical fallacies & Mahjong
Hey! I've lately been reading on logical fallacies and found this: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Regression_to_the_mean I think it applies to the thing we're all familiar with, Tenhou ebb & flow. When you're on top of your game, get a great streak of 123 places and you get a feeling you've actually i...
