Re: WWYD 2011/10/05

our only real options are: 9-bam 7-bam 7-crak due to the dora and the fact that other tiles are parts of complete sets. our only options for yaku are tan yao, pinfu and reach (reach being the most likely). 9-bam discard is the best if you compare the odds of getting each yaku (more likely to get tan...

Re: WWYD 2011/09/28

1-bam
We might decrease our seven pairs wait by 2 tiles, but we open up tan yao and all pungs.

Re: WWYD 2011/9/14

How are we working out how fast we make tenpai? Because i could've sworn that the 4b is just as fast as the 5c (though pretty poor at mahjong).

Re: WWYD for 8/24/11

What are the other options except the 7-dot ?

Maybe the 9-bam and going for all pairs?

I really can't see anything else.

3 player vs 4 player

I know how to play the 3 player version (as in, rules/regulation). How do I adjust my strategy?

From my understanding, 3 player requires more skill than 4 player (despite the north dora system which is silly).

Re: Talk on Poker, Go, Game Design

I found it interesting enough to watch the whole thing :)

The analogies got a bit out of hand but other than that I enjoyed it.

Tenhou Dan lobby

Is it still possible to join the dan lobby in tenhou without paying? the tenhou documentation http://arcturus.su/tenhou/lobbies-games.html seems to suggest that you can but when i click on the dan lobby it just links me to the "pay for membership" page. Since i don't speak japanese i'm not sure what...

Re: Strategy Thread: Hand Flexibility?

okay, thanks, I'll check it out. I'll be a little bit busy with assignments until the end of the week, so maybe we can play each other next weekend?
We should probably move the conversation to private messages :P

Re: Strategy Thread: Hand Flexibility?

I don't know how to live stream. I also don't know how to contact you on Janryumon (I only know how to join a public game since I can't read japanese).

If you could tell me or link a website on how to do either of those things i would greatly appreciate it :)

Re: Strategy Thread: Hand Flexibility?

Okay i finally got it working (it was difficult since i can't speak japanese). What times are you free? I'm usually free around this time (give or take a few hours). I'm not free over the next couple of days but I'd definitely like to play with you and get some thoughts on how I can improve. I've re...

Re: Strategy Thread: Hand Flexibility?

Thanks for the reply, it really cleared some things up. I've been reading everything (in english) that i could find through links. A lot of it was basic tile efficiency stuff and defensive play (sujis kabe etc.). The main sites i've used are osamuko's blog and reachmahjong. I've also read your blog ...

Re: Strategy Thread: Hand Flexibility?

First. That background is awesome, how'd you get it? And I see your point. Saki-giri seems to be a large argument against the akagi "safe" area system. Would it still be possible to use the "safe" area system against newer players (since i play with fairly new friends and in the lower areas of tenho...

Strategy Thread: Hand Flexibility?

I've been watching a few replays of high rating players on tenhou and been trying to make sense of some of the discards. While they're in dealer position it's easy to follow what they're doing since they play so aggresively and look for quick cheap wins, however in other situations they start to con...
