It’s April again and that means we get to start all over.
Well, in the Japan Professional Mahjong League anyway. Although it is getting a bit tiring to start all over from the D-level yet again.
I was able to stay in D1 again this year and it’s a tough road to move up in JPML with 50 players or so in the lower leagues and only 6 moving up at a time. It’s even worse the higher you get with only 2 players moving up and down over 6 months or a year. There’s no super-quick path to the A-Leagues.

We used to be a trio here at ReachMahjong.com. Garthe, Gemma and myself (in alphabetical order) work on the site and play in the mahjong field. However we did not hear that Gemma won the Baden Open over the weekend until today, and this we found out on our own. My first instinct was to completely disown Gem. Then I realized that while Garthe and I are stinking up our leagues in Japan, Gem is the only one actually winning things… So I put my head down and got the info of our 2-time champion, Gemma Collinge. We love you Gem! Congratulations! Read on for the report from the tournament organizer, Alexander Doppelhofer.

September 26th the Netherlands is hosting the Kinryu Majan Taikai in Almere. Contrary to the tournament’s original intent, they will no longer be playing the yakitori rule.
Participants received an email earlier this week stating:
“The KMT used the yakitori as (optional) bonus element, but EMA requested all tournaments use the same additional elements, so at the KMT we will also play with red fives.”
