Gemma was in Hannover (quite a while ago)

Nov 17th, 2011
by Gemma

First of all, I apologize that this report is old news now. I’m going to try and use preparation for my trip to Japan as my excuse. However, considering that I packed the night before I left in a mad panic, it’s not a particularly good excuse…

If I’m honest with myself, it’s probably because it was really not a good performance from me at all. Generally I’ve found the most recent tournaments hard and I wish I could find a solid reason for that. Apart from lack of practice, ignoring the strategy in the books I read etc etc

Oranda Sai-Kou

Sep 23rd, 2011
by WorTeX

The Oranda Sai-Kou tournament held in the city of Utrecht was probably this year’s high-point of the European riichi mahjong scene. With 68 participants from ten countries gathering to Den Hommel (The Bumblebee) for nine sessions of riichi, this was the longest RCR event ever held in Europe.

This tournament also determined the Dutch Champion, who has been decided with total score from two separate tournaments that took place this year.

Oranda Sai-Kou Tournament Day Two

Sep 19th, 2011
by Gemma

(See the report from Day 1 here)

With no hope of placing in sight for me, I could instead turn my attention to the performance of the other players.

In particular, the French players. I’m amazed at how their numbers have increased in such a short space of time. But not only that – they’re really good! Rarely do you see the Dutch having to put up a fight on their own turf. For quite some time it looked like the first spot would go to a Frenchman, if not all the spots.

Oranda Sai-Kou Tournament Day One

Sep 19th, 2011
by Gemma

Day one of the Oranda Sai-Kou tournament in Utrecht, Netherlands. I am tired. And for no good reason either. I got plenty of rest on the train here. (I thought I’d get my excuses in a little early!)

For those who checked my twitter, you’ll already know that my day was a bit of a mixed bag. Started off badly, recovered a little, lost it again, gained it back big time, and then cruised until the end of the day.

New champion of the world! (of North Kanto)

Aug 29th, 2011
by garthe

You may have noticed in the last couple of weeks that everything I say has a slightly louder ring of authority. That’s because I finally won my first title last Sunday in the North Kanto local league.

North Kanto Champion, Gartheeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Ok now that I’ve got the grandstanding out of the way, return to my normally humble self. Haha, oh I kill me!
