A couple months ago I wrote about playing on Ron2 League and I didn’t give any dates or anything.
What was I thinking.
So Today I’d like to try and fix that.
My plan was to make it to the Gold League by April so that I could try and qualify for the Internet Mahjong Championship. It so happens that I was offered a spot in the main event anyway, so the fact that I only made it to and retained my silver status ended up OK.

On the 24th and 25th of April, Garthe and I played in the Internet Mahjong Championship, starting from the main event.
I played on the 24th with another pro, Koguruma. We played with two users who had won their way into the main event and to our table.
I had a problem with my connection and dropped out no fewer than 10 times, ending in third place for the first game. Lucky for me there were two games and while the majority of those disconnections happened during the second game, I somehow was able to win and pass Koguruma’s score for second place to make it into the Best 32, to be held on June 3rd! A user named Suzuki also advanced to the next round.

For the past few years JPML has participated in and helped facilitate the Internet Mahjong Championship. Every year a number of pro’s are invited to play in the main tournament and qualifiers are held on Ron2 and Hangame for the remaining participants.
This year Garthe and I were chosen as professional representatives and we’ll both be playing on HanGame. I’ll be playing at 9pm JST on April 24th and Garthe will be playing on the 25th. You can view the games, so if anyone has a Hangame ID, we’ll be on the 4-player mahjong site. We’ll play 2 games to decide who moves on to the next round.
Here’s a list of the pro’s playing in the first round:

As most people know, I tend to play on ron2 rather than tenhou.
Anyway, I’ve been focusing on the League games and just got to Gold league. My reward for this is a signature card from a JPML pro and a special match with a pro and others who managed to get promoted.
The game is tonight at 11pm Japan time. It should allow people to watch. It’ll be on the Special Floor so you can watch me fail miserably if you like and dissect my mistakes
If you have any problems accessing ron2 and/or the game, tweet me.

On our old site we had a full tutorial to join and play on Ron2. It’s been a few years since they changed the layout and all the pages, so we’ve got a new tutorial started (finally). I’ll put up a new piece to the tutorial every week, so you may not be able to use everything all at once, but hopefully this will get everyone started and back online! There are tons of reasons to use Ron2 as your primary online Reach Mahjong venue. Read our old review here. Let’s get started. First, you’re going to have to sign up for an account. This page explains the different types of accounts.

So… I didn’t meet my target. However, I did get better! I’m now 2.6. Not bad at all. Especially as I’ve had my parents to stay for a whole week.

Checking out the rankings on the EMA site, I am quite horrified at how fast my decline into “poor mahjong player” has in fact been.

Last year Garthe and I finally got our Ron2 Pro IDs. When that happened, I realized there was a whole world of events that I never even noticed. There are top professional players playing on JPML’S official battle site, Ron2, everyday and any member has the chance to go head-to-head with these players.
